VOX POPULI – INTERNATIONAL  ART PROJECT
on the theme of democracy
in the public space and in the fortress Burg Eisenhardt in the city of Bad Belzig

In the summer of 2009 the international art project VOX POPULI (lat: people ́s voice)
occurred in the public space of the city of Bad Belzig and in the fortress Burg Eisenhardt.
Artists were invited to develop approaches to the theme of democracy using art as a possibility for freedom of expression as their individual democratic right and also questioning the freedom of European democracy which is protected by the fence of the “Schengen treaty”.
Many artists today prefer to work in public spaces and use social topics to develop new strategies with interactive and participative methods. According to the theme one
emphasis of the project was the integration of local people in the artistic process and the public discussion about artistic and democratic values.
In this sense the project „Vox Populi“ shows some aspects of relevant artistic practice and social responsibility.
